Sunrise at Santorini
I had requested a 6:00 am alarm call so that I could get up on deck to watch the Emerald approaching Santorini's island ring, but we were awakened earlier than this by the ship's maneouvering engines as it was already approaching the caldera.
By the time I'd grabbed a cup of coffee and made my way up to the front of deck 9, we were already well inside the caldera, and passing the new volcanic island of Nea Kamini (map above) to the port (left) of the ship and rapidly approaching the port of Fira. The sun was rising above the tall cliffs as I took this shot.
